Elementary
Overview
The elementary levels provide a comprehensive course of study. During these formative years, we seek to teach our students responsibility and problem-solving skills. Our instructional program includes Language Arts (composition, grammar, handwriting, reading, spelling and vocabulary), Bible, Math, Science and Social Studies, all of which are taught in Spanish. In addition to the core classes, elementary students have daily English class, bi-weekly physical education, and weekly classes in Art, Music and library. Students are evaluated on academic and behavioral progress as well as effort.
Schedule and Details
There is one section of each grade from first through sixth grade. Each grade level is taught by a dedicated teacher. Classes are limited to 22-25 students. The school day is from 7:30 to 2:30 p.m. Mondays through Fridays.
Curriculum
NCA Matagalpa has developed a wide plan of study for all grade levels that incorporates the standards established by the Ministry of Education as well as active learning application in each class integrating Biblical worldview.
In our elementary grades, we are using Santillana textbooks for many subjects, and Christian Schools International textbooks for our Bible classes. For our English program we utilize Next Stop from Macmillan as well as the Hats on Top series for lower elementary.
